Research, Insight & Consulting (UK)

Purpose

The Research, Insight & Consulting (R,I&C) team are here to support the business’ desire to help clients make better decisions. Research is not the end in itself, it’s our role to advise, guide and enable clients to get more from their research investments. This means we have a focus on the fitness for purpose of research design, and commercial nous and expertise are woven through our reporting and client advisory work.  We measure our success by the ability to enable clients with commercially better outcomes from research, not just on our research skills excellence. All that said, we are research and insight experts, we see research methods, frameworks and approaches as our toolkit, the way in which we deliver on our core promise to help customers make better decisions.

What we do

Our clients typically want to…

  • Define, develop or renew their strategy: Understand their market landscape and how buying decisions are made

  • Define, develop or renew their marketing: Create robust, research-led thought-leadership
  • Define, develop or renew the value they offer to customers: Enhance customer experience and satisfaction

We answer these questions using…

Practice Areas

We’re all one team but we also have special skill sets and priority areas for business growth. To support this, we have a number of Practice Areas. Practice Areas are small groups of passionate experts responsible for setting our strategy, making us famous, and ensuring that we become the best we can be – whether that be in a specific sector, methodology / audience, or internal processes. Your Career Manager will talk to you about any Practice Areas you might be interested in and how you can get involved. Below is an outline of our current Practice Areas:

Sector Practice Areas

Audience & Methodology Practice Areas

Process Practice Areas

Goals

  • Be the experts for: client pitches, providing advice on projects and to marketing
  • Work with Commercial to grow the sector
  • Build the depth and breadth of sector experience in the wider team
  • Build awareness of our capability (with Marketing & Commercial teams)
  • Find and speak at sector-specific events

Composition

  • The permanent Practice Area ‘teams’ will be smaller ‘steering groups’ rather than large permanent teams (driving the agenda but not doing everything)
  • Practice Areas will provide opportunities across the business for others to do ‘secondments’ to specific practice area ‘projects/ initiatives’ offering the opportunity for broader involvement in the Practice Areas for all
  • The membership of the Practice Areas is currently being defined by the various leads – please do let area leads know if you have any particular interests

How we Work

There are 5 core stages to the ‘standard’ project (but what we do is rarely ‘standard’ so be prepared for the unexpected!). You’ll be working closely with colleagues in Commercial and Operations to help our clients make better decisions.

2

3

4

Enquiry

The Commercial team will always be talking with current and prospective clients to find out the challenges they’re facing, what they want to achieve and where they could use our help. In the short-term, senior members of the Research, Insight and Consulting team will also do this job whilst we build the Commercial team.

Proposal

Once a client sends us a brief for a project, the commercial team will ‘buddy-up’ with a relevant person on the Research, Insight & Consulting team to develop the proposal together.

Research design & management

Once a project is won, a team will be assigned by the Resource Manager. They’ll consider your skills, your development aims and your capacity when picking the team. Once we have our team in place, this is where we really get stuck in – designing the research materials and making sure everything runs smoothly!

Fieldwork operations

Our colleagues in Operations are superstars at programming and managing surveys, so you’ll work closely with them on any projects that involve a survey. In the long-term, the Operations team will also develop further capabilities in areas like qualitative research, but for now some fieldwork will still be managed within the Research, Insight & Consulting team.

Analysis & delivery

So you’ve done the ‘research’ bit – now you need to bring it to life for our clients! This might mean crafting a presentation or a report, it could be running a workshop, creating a dashboard with the help of our Ops colleagues, or much more! Our aim here is to make sure that what we deliver to the client will be as powerful as possible and help them to make better decisions. And if it all goes well, the best decision they’ll make is to go back to the beginning again and work with Savanta on more projects!

Resource Planning

“To ensure we have the right people, in the right place, at the right time”

How and why we do it

Across Research, Insight & Consulting Forecast is the system we are using to plan and manage our resources across multiple projects. Used correctly it enables the Resource Manager to ensure projects are resourced adequately, flagging teams or projects that are over worked, or the reverse.  Once a new project is won the lead must let [email protected] know of the project team and duration and the project will be created and managed at a resourcing level in Forecast.

For this to work Savanteers at all levels need to ensure their time and the projects they are on are recorded in Forecast. This is not designed to be a ‘big brother’ tool but to enable us to best service and enable our clients, while helping us to make better decisions internally and support you and your workload capacity.

What we can give you

  • Exposure to new projects
  • Opportunities to work with certain clients/sector experience (dependant on current commitments)
  • Ensuring everyone is working fairly across the Savanta in a transparent working environment

What we need from you

  • Ensure Forecast is accurate and up-to-date
  • Advise on won work and changes to resourcing requirements at the earliest opportunity
  • Flag any need for which we may need to externally recruit for

If you have any questions or want more information please contact [email protected]
